NIGERIAN PALM OIL: QUALITY DISPARITY, CONTAMINATION AND PROCESSING WASTES HANDLING

نویسندگان

چکیده

The review article intended to provide an overview of quality variation and various contaminants in locally processed palm oil (PO). paper also deliberates on the pros cons wastes generated during PO processing. There is a serious concern about safety crude Nigeria resulting from poor raw materials, inadequate processing know-how, inappropriate packaging storage facilities, handling transportation system more importantly adulteration by producers marketers. Wide disparities chemical physical composition were reported literature. This may result variations fruit, environmental factors, operations which determined location abuse transportation. Microbial contamination foremost challenge Nigerian Higher microbial counts presence toxic microorganisms including aflatoxins-producing fungi many researchers. Oil production contaminated soil account for heavy metals contamination, though, below permissible limits was most cases. Wastes can be detrimental environment. Alternately, benefits derived proper utilisation wastes. Palm mill effluent (POME) good substrate organic manure, biomolecules amendment oil-contaminated soil. Recommendations how tackle challenges along supply chain presented at end paper.
